LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Some CityBus riders got an unexpected Christmas gift in the form of $100 bills.
It happened in front of the CityBus Center on Third Street in Lafayette at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday. A man boarded a CityBus and handed out 13 $100 bills to the driver and the passengers. Along with the cash was a note asking each recipient to do something nice for someone else next Christmas.
The driver of the bus, Michael Pattengale, said he was glad to witness such generosity toward strangers.
“I wish there was more of it. Not necessarily giving money, but just something to keep your spirits up and keep them moving,” Pattengale said. “And keep you wanting to help others because I think we forget to sometimes.”
Pattengale said he intends to do as the letter asks and pay it forward next Christmas.
“Next Christmas there is going to be somebody that doesn’t know me get some help,” said Pattengale. “I will see to that.”
Pattengale also said he was thankful. He added that the man who gave out the money wished to remain anonymous.
