3 killed in Vermillion County crash

CAYUGA, Ind. (WTHI) – Three people are dead and two are injured after a crash in Vermillion County.

It happened just after 2:00 Friday afternoon in Cayuga.

According to officials, one vehicle went into the Colonial Brick Corporation building at 8th and Park Streets.

The preliminary investigation revealed the driver of the truck, 18-year-old Ethan Lee, from Muncie, Indiana was driving east-bound on CR 400 North near 8th Street.

Police say the truck traveled over a rise in the roadway and lost control, and hit an embankment.

After hitting the embankment, the truck went airborne, hitting the west wall of the Colonial Brick Building.

The truck continued inside the building before coming to a stop.

Officials say 18-year-old Braeden Howell, from Cayuga, 18-year-old Ann Clark from Muncie, and Caroline Clark from Muncie were killed in the crash.

Lee, the driver of the truck, was airlifted to Indianapolis with neck and internal injuries.

One person inside the Colonial Brick Corporation was injured after the truck crashed into the building.

Police say Donna Stambaugh from Cayuga was hit and covered in debris from the crash.

Stambaugh was taken to Union Hospital in Clinton with head and chest pain.

Police say speed does appear to be a contributing factor in the crash. Seat belts were not in use.
