Wednesday 1st day to file for Indiana municipal elections

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Another Indiana election cycle is about to begin: Candidates can register to run for city or town offices beginning Wednesday.

That’s when candidates can file paperwork with their local election boards to declare their intentions to run in the 2015 municipal primaries.

Voters in the state’s largest city will elect a new mayor this year. Republican incumbent Greg Ballard has said he won’t seek a third term leading Indianapolis. Former U.S. Attorney Joe Hogsett is the only current Democratic candidate to replace him after state Rep. Ed DeLaney dropped out recently. No prominent Republicans have started campaigns.

In Fort Wayne, Allen County Republican Chairman Steve Shine says planning for the 2015 elections began once the 2014 elections ended.
