INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana’s Office of Utility Consumer Counselor is reminding residential and business telephone users in southern Indiana’s 812 area code they should be prepared for changes beginning next month ahead of the introduction of the 930 area code.
The office says that beginning Feb. 7, all local calls made within the 812 area must be placed using the 10-digit telephone number, or the area code with the seven-digit telephone number. Calls that are currently local will continue to be local even with the 10-digit dialing.
Then, beginning on March 7, new telephone lines or services may be assigned numbers using the new 930 area code.
The new area code was created because 812 phone numbers are running out. The 930 area code will overlay the 812 area code.
