INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Indiana’s cold snap spares no one.
Early Thursday morning, Indianapolis Motor Speedway President Doug Boles woke up with water in his basement.
Overnight, Boles tweeted out pictures and a quick description of the situation. Then, after a brief bit of sleep, he joined 24-Hour News 8 on the phone on Daybreak.
Boles says it appears pipes froze and burst, swamping the basement ceiling and the floor below.
He credits his step-sons, who were still up playing video games, for acting quickly when things started to get soggy.
“We never thought playing video games would pay off, but last night it certainly did,” Boles told us.
The best picture in the twitter collage may be one with Boles holding a hand saw underneath the hole he had to cut into the ceiling. Despite the situation and the hour, Boles is smiling in the picture.
“We just started counting our blessings. The first of them was that the boys were still awake,” he explained. “Otherwise this would have gone on all night and been a bigger problem.”
By the time Boles spoke with Daybreak, he said a restoration worker was already out at the house and handling the clean-up.
