Report: School employee arrested for theft

COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) – According to the Columbus Republic, a school administrative assistant is under arrest for theft.

Reports say Michelle R. Rooks is accused of mishandling money when she acted as Northside Middle School’s treasurer.

Police say Rooks has been released from the Bartholomew County Jail after posting bond.

Rooks was in charge of collecting cash from students for school functions and programs, said Sgt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police spokesman.

Police are investigating how much money is missing, Harris said.

The school corporation has terminated Rooks’ employment, according to a news release from the school corporation.
