Altitude could play role in Colts game

DENVER (WISH) – It usually comes up in big games in Denver, but it’s a topic not everyone wants to talk about. The altitude.

The Broncos are accustomed to playing football in the thin air, and Colts coach Chuck Pagano, who grew up in Colorado and played football at the University of Wyoming knows it’s real.

“There’s a little bit of an acclimation period to it, ” said Pagano. “But I think leading up to the game, everything that we did starting on Monday all the way through kickoff, there’s things you can do, but I can’t simulate the altitude. I tried.”

Denver coach John Fox agrees. “It has an impact, it’s been proven scientifically and I think that is one of the reasons why we’ve had great home field success.”

The Colts did get off to a slow start in their game in September, so we’ll ell see if the same happens again Sunday. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
