LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A Lafayette man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery early Saturday morning.
WISH-TV’s sister station WLFI-TV reported that just after 1 a.m. Saturday, Lafayette police responded to a reported armed robbery at the Village Pantry located at 1901 Schuyler Avenue. Police said a man entered the business, displayed a firearm, and demanded cash and merchandise.
The suspect fled the scene with merchandise from the robbery. No individuals were injured.
A short time later, a Purdue University Police officer initiated a traffic stop in the 400 block of North River Road. Items relating to the robbery were located inside of the vehicle. Merchandise taken during the robbery was also recovered from inside the vehicle.
Officers arrested 19-year-old Jonathan L. Washington of Lafayette.
Washington is preliminarily charged with armed robbery and theft, and was also cited for traffic offenses.
