Indianapolis murder suspect in custody

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – An Indianapolis man’s death has been ruled a homicide after an investigation into suspicious circumstances.

Detectives began an investigation after they were dispatched to a house on the 3700 block of North Meridian Street on Jan. 7.

When IMPD arrived at the residence, they found a deceased man, later identified as Gale Haltom, 58, on the sofa. Police say he appeared to have died from multiple stab wounds.

According to investigators, on the evening of Jan. 5, Haltom had befriended a homeless couple and invited them to join him at his home.

Haltom allegedly got into an argument with the male suspect, identified as Romaine Durrett, 32, while the female was out of the room.

Investigators say Durrett became angry and stabbed Halton multiple times.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office has formally charged Durrett with murder. He is currently in custody.
