Body found in abandoned Gary building identified
CROWN POINT, Ind. (AP) – The Lake County coroner has identified a woman whose remains were found in an abandoned Gary building that authorities were led to by a man suspected in seven deaths.
Coroner Merrilee Frey said the woman whose body was found Oct. 19 was 41-year-old Tracy L. Martin of Gary.
Frey says Martin’s identity was learned through DNA testing by the Indiana State Police Laboratory in Indianapolis.
Martin’s remains were found after authorities say 43-year-old Darren Vann of Gary confessed to killing seven women whose remains all were found over three days. He’s charged with strangling two of the victims who were previously identified and suspected in the five other deaths.
Frey did not indicate how Martin died.
