PETA recognizes local fire crews for rescuing dogs

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — PETA is showing its appreciation to a pair of local fire crews, following their efforts to rescue three dogs from icy ponds earlier this week.

Tuesday’s rescues by the Wayne Township and Indianapolis fire departments are being recognized by the national animal advocacy group, which is sending an assortment of gifts to show its appreciation.

Each of the departments is expected to receive an award certificate, as well as a plant-based diet plan created by a Texas firefighter. PETA said it would also be sending a box of vegan chocolates to both.

“PETA hopes this will inspire others to take a page from the firefighters’ book and always come to the aid of animals in need,” PETA Senior Vice President Daphna Nachminovitch said in the release.
