BOONE COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – Slick roads and accidents closed the north and southbound lanes of traffic on I-65 in Boone County early Tuesday morning. Police say one of the accidents resulted in a fatality.
Just before 3 a.m. Tuesday morning, Boone County officials say a serious accident closed the southbound lanes of I-65 near U.S. 52.
A short time later, police say a chain reaction wreck happened in the northbound lanes when a double trailer crashed under the State Road 32 overpass.
Officers say the driver of the double trailer got out of his vehicle after the crash and was struck and killed by another semi.
Police say the man killed was in his late 40’s and from Illinois.
Lebanon Police described I-65 as “a sheet of ice”.
Police were able to re-open the southbound lanes of traffic just after 5 a.m. Southbound lanes re-opened just before 8 a.m.
