FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — Fort Wayne police are investigating a robbery that took place at a jewelry store Monday evening where three men walked into the store and smashed a display case with hammers.

Employees at the Jared store located outside Glenbrook Square mall told police the men came into the store at around 8 p.m. Two of them then pulled out hammers and smashed the glass on a display case that contained loose diamonds. Then all three grabbed what they could and ran out of the store. One of the employees told officers it all happened very quickly. Police found one of the hammers still inside the case and the other on the floor.

An employee told police that about 30 minutes before the robbery a man had entered the store by himself and had been loitering by the same case that ended up being smashed.

Surveillance video viewed by police showed a white Dodge Intrepid pull into the Jared parking lot. The three men got out and the driver stayed inside the car which had been reported stolen from a nearby store. After getting back into the car, the four drove to the Target just south of the mall, parked and took off in different vehicles.

One of the employees was able to provide a vague description of the three. All were said to be black men about 5 foot 9 inches to 5 foot 10 inches tall, between the ages of 20 and 30. One was wearing a black hoodie with the hood pulled over his head. That person also had a tattoo on his right cheek, but the employee couldn’t make out exactly what it depicted.
