Notre Dame extends Jenkins’ presidency another 5 years

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) – The Rev. John I. Jenkins has been elected to a third five-year term as president of the University of Notre Dame.

The board of trustees announced the extension Friday during its winter meeting in Naples, Florida.

Jenkins is a Holy Cross priest and was elected Notre Dame’s 17th president in 2005. His current term was to expire June 30.

He said in a statement that it is a “tremendous honor and weighty responsibility to lead” the university.

The board also re-elected Thomas G. Burish to a new five-year term as the university’s provost.
