Polar Plunge gets students freezin’ for a reason

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – On a cold winter morning, hundreds of people decided to jump into a pool of freezing water.

The 2015 Polar Plunge took place outside Butler University’s Health & Recreation Complex on Saturday morning. Hundreds of people showed up to take a dive.

The event was held to raise money for more than 11,000 Special Olympic athletes across the state.

Each Polar Plunge participant was asked to raise a “bear” minimum of $75 ($50 minimum with student ID).

Duchess Adjei with Special Olympics Indiana said, “It really means a lot. Butler students have broken a record today. Last year, I think they hit about $20,000. They’re well over $35,000.”

Butler University’s Polar Plunge was the first of the 14 sites throughout the state to host a Polar Plunge. The final fundraising event will take place on March 7 at the Eagle Creek Reservoir.

Last year, the Polar Plunge season raised more than $580,000 for Special Olympics Indiana. For more information, visit Special Olympics Indiana’s website.
