Columbus teen seriously injured in car crash

BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – A two-vehicle crash along U.S. 31 left one teen seriously injured Sunday evening.

Preliminary investigation reveals Janell Foley, 42, was traveling southbound when Josh Speidel, 18, entered the roadway on the west side of U.S. 31. According to Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department, Foley’s car struck Speidel’s driver’s side area, causing Speidel’s car to spin around before coming to a stop.

German Township Fire Department had to free Speidel from the driver’s seat area.

Speidel was reportedly transported to Columbus Regional Hospital. Since then, he has been transferred to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital for his injuries.

The other passenger in Speidel’s car, Kaylee McCracken, 18, was reportedly transported to Columbus Regional Hospital with minor injuries.

Paramedics treated and released Foley and her two young children from the scene of the accident. The children were not injured.

Deputies believe speed was not a contributing factor in the accident.

Speidel is a Columbus North basketball player.
