Ousted Indiana town marshal seeks to void his removal

MARKLEVILLE, Ind. (AP) – The former marshal of a small central Indiana town is fighting his recent removal from that post, alleging town council members met illegally when they decided to fire him.

The Madison County town of Markleville that’s a few miles south of Anderson has been without a police force since Jan. 1, when Sam Weist was removed as town marshal.

The Herald Bulletin reports Weist’s attorney has asked a local judge to void his client’s removal by the town council.

Attorney John Wilson claims the council held an illegal meeting in December when two councilmen discussed town business together.

Wilson says he’ll ask for Weist to be reinstated as town marshal but says that will be up to a Madison County judge to decide.
