2 men charged for Carmel car break-ins

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Two men were arrested Monday night, after Carmel police say they witnessed the men breaking into cars, and later fleeing in another.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police arrested Johnny L. Woodrupp, 28, and Joseph L. Gant, 31, following a three-mile car chase and a pair of foot pursuits, according to a news release from the Carmel Police Department.

According to police, Woodrupp crashed the car near Spring Mill Road at 72nd Street, and the two men fled on foot.

Woodrupp was tracked by a K-9 officer to a location nearby. He has been charged with theft, resisting arrest and criminal recklessness, as well as criminal mischief.

IMPD arrested Gant near the 64th Street and Sunset Drive intersection and is facing similar charges.

Both Woodrup and Gant were taken to Hamilton County Jail. They are being held on $25,000 and $5,000 bond, respectively. They each are scheduled to appear in court May 14, according to the jail website.
