First Allegiant flight takes off Thursday

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH ) – The first Allegiant Air flight from Indianapolis International Airport takes off Thursday.

The inaugural flight will be to New Orleans, that is just one of five destinations Allegiant Air is launching from Indianapolis just this month. Airport Executive Director Mario Rodriguez said it’s the company’s biggest debut in its history.

Allegiant Air offers ultra low-cost flights, which will allow many people to afford trips to destinations that they may not have been able to before, Rodriguez said.

Just recently the magazine Conde Nast Traveler ranked Indy’s airport number one, citing innovative security check-points and great customer service. Rodriguez said those services along with the new non-stop flights make Indy stand out.

“You have enough direct destinations to get anywhere you want to go, plus you have a pleasant experience. Flying should be, it should be like that. It shouldn’t be a horrible experience like in most other places, it would be a wonderful experience,” Rodriguez said.

Allegiant Air will be offering flights year-round to Las Vegas and several hot-spots in Florida including Punta Gorda, Tampa, Orlando and Myrtle Beach. There will also be seasonal flights offered like the route to New Orleans.

To win the free trip for two Thursday, just pack your bags and arrive at the Allegiant Air ticket counter by 1 p.m. Each person will receive one entry. To receive an additional entry, Rodriguez said wear your Mardi Gras best. At 1:45 p.m., a winner will be announced.

“If you win the trip you automatically get on the airplane. The same moment, you’re on the airplane, you’re heading to New Orleans. The hotel is included and you’re going to have a great time in New Orleans,” Rodriguez said.

The winners will return to Indianapolis Sunday.
