INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Seven people escaped a house fire in the early morning hours on Thursday.

At approximately 12:30 a.m. on Feb. 5, Indianapolis Fire crews responded to a house fire on the 1300 block of Congress Avenue on the near west side of Indianapolis.

One of the residents in the house reported feeling more heat than usual, which prompted him to get his five children, ages 11, 7, 6, 5 and 4, and the mother out of the house promptly.

Fire crews were able to quickly contain the fire to one room near the front of the house.

The family will be staying with relatives while the cause of the fire is investigated. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
