Police: Man left scene of accident, charged with child neglect

ELIZABETHTOWN, Ind. (WISH) – Police responded to a car accident in Bartholomew County and found the driver walking away from the crash scene carrying his young daughter.

Batholomew County Sheriff’s Department responded to an accident on Road 525 East, north of State Road 7 on Feb. 4 at 1:22 p.m.

When police arrived, they were told by witnesses that the adult male driver had left the car and was walking towards CERAland carrying a small female child.

Police found the adult male, identified as Michael Furst, and his two-year-old daughter just outside CERAland, on the 3900 block of South 525 East.

After interviewing him, police reported that Furst had admitted to driving the vehicle and leaving the scene of the accident.

Both Furst and his daughter were checked by EMS, neither were injured.

Bartholomew County police arrested Furst on preliminary charges of child neglect and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

Police are still investigating this incident.
