Police search for answers in 77-year-old woman’s death

RENSSELAER, Ind. (WLFI) – Law enforcement in Jasper County have widened their canvas area to speak with all persons in a two block radius concerning the death of a 77-year-old Rensselaer woman.

WISH-TV News 8’s sister station WLFI News reported that Rensselaer Police Department is partnering with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office and Indiana State Police to reach a larger radius around Trula Alliss’ apartment on B-Mar Drive.

“We increased the area of canvass to speak with all the people in the neighborhood looking to find any information about the death of Trula Alliss. We also are looking for information on a shots fired call on the night February 2 early morning of February 3,” said Rensselaer Police Chief Jeff Phillips.

Police found Alliss dead in her apartment on Feb. 5 after responding to the residence on a well-being check. Two days later, officials ruled her death a homicide after autopsy results determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma.

Results from evidence submitted to the crime lab are still pending. Officials said it could take up to two weeks to receive results.

If anyone has information about the case, please call the Rensselaer Police Department at 219-866-7602.
