Enzert Lewis sentenced to 60 years

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – Last month a jury convicted Enzert Lewis of murdering his estranged wife, Allyson Elmi-Lewis. He faced 45-65 years in prison.

In her victim impact statement Allyson Elmi’s mother stated, “Enzert Lewis gave her his name then took her life.”

People consoled her as Terry Modesitt continued to read her statement. Allyson’s family says their Sunday Family Days will never be the same without her.

Enzert Lewis gave no visible reaction as the victim impact statements were read aloud in court.

Modesitt said Lewis has aggravating circumstances leading to a longer sentence, including how victim was brutally beaten. Modesitt then revealed Lewis suffers from Schizophrenia and PTSD.

Modesitt was asking for the maximum sentence, which he said is 69 years. That would require consecutive sentences of all counts.

Defense Attorney Paul Jungers stated that outside of a misdemeanor OWI conviction, Lewis has “lived a law abiding life.”

Lewis declines to give court a statement and was sentenced to a total of 60 years.
