Angie’s List one step closer to expanding in Indy

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Angie’s List is one step closer to receiving $18.5 million in taxpayer money to expand its facilities.

With only one “no” vote, the Metropolitan and Economic Development Committee approved the company’s request Monday night, sending it to the full council.

Angie’s List is asking for the money to expand into the old Ford factory on East Washington Street – three blocks east of downtown.

Critics question whether it’s a safe investment for the city, and if TIF money should be spread around more to other parts of the city.

Supporters say it will add 1,000 jobs by 2019 and will help revitalize the near east side.

“We’re very very pleased with the committee’s vote tonight,” Angie’s List COO Mark Howell said. “We worked on this project with the city for more than two years and we’ve always felt this was a deal that was important to Angie’s List but equally as important to both the city and IPS.”

Part of the deal includes building a large parking garage beside the renovated Ford factory, which is currently owned by IPS.

If approved, Angie’s List has committed to investing $44 million in the city of Indianapolis.
