Man sentenced to 85 years for 2013 kidnapping

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Raymond Smith was found guilty and sentenced to 85 years for the kidnapping, sexual assault and robbery of a woman that took place in July 2013.

According to Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry, Smith pretended to be a parking lot attendant, followed the woman to her parking spot, waited until she got out of her car, and then forced his way into the vehicle. They said he drove the woman to the south side of Indianapolis where he sexually assaulted her.

After the sexual assault he drove the woman to the north side of the city, robbed her of cash and then let her go.

Smith was identified as the suspect from a surveillance video from the parking lot where he took the woman.

Smith was convicted on Feb. 10 by a jury of two counts of criminal conduct, kidnapping, robbery, carjacking, criminal confinement, strangulation and battery.

He was sentenced Friday to serve 85 years in an Indiana prison.
