‘Back on my Feet’ program moves indoors during cold snap

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The group, Back on My Feet, is a nonprofit that helps homeless people restart their lives through running. Several times a week, the group meets and starts their morning with a run.

The group says the structure and discipline of running, combined with the support of other runners pushes people to get their lives back on track.

Now that the brutally cold weather has set in, the Back on My Feet group is running inside at the National Institute for Fitness and Sport. NIFS decided to open its doors to the runners during the winter months.

“We simply allow them to come to NIFS when the weather is bad so they can continue with their program. We feel this is a great program that services the community and this one way we can help them and the community,” said Trudy Coler with NIFS.

The group runs from about 5:45 a.m. to 6:45 a.m. and then work toward bettering their lives through the rest of the day. Some attend classes or even go to their jobs.
