Volunteers renovate kitchen for homeless veterans

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH ) — Dozens of volunteers will spend Wednesday completing a kitchen makeover inside an Indianapolis home.

It isn’t just any house, but one that shelters six homeless veterans through the Hoosier Veterans Assistance Foundation.

The Lyter House was the first property obtained by HVAF back in 1993, but the home is more than 75-years-old.

More than 30 Home Depot volunteers, with the help of a $10,500 grant, will renovate the kitchen to make it more up-to-date and usable. The renovation includes new cabinets, counter tops, flooring, paint and appliances.

HVAF staff said the organizations now houses more than 200 homeless veterans in 15 properties throughout Indianapolis.
