Passenger injured after truck overturns on I-69

GRANT COUNTY (WISH) – A passenger was injured after a crash on Thursday morning on Interstate 69 near the 262 mile marker.

According to a preliminary crash investigation by the Indiana State Police, 61-year-old Jeffery Smiley of New Castle was traveling northbound on I-69 in his 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck. Police say he was driving too fast for the conditions.

The icy roadway caused Smiley’s vehicle to veer off the roadway. The truck rolled at least one time before coming to rest on its tires. The roof of the truck was crushed, trapping Smiley and his passenger inside the vehicle.

Greg Callahan, 53, of New Castle was transported by ambulance with sever head and back injuries. Smiley was not injured.

Police say both were wearing seatbelts.
