Court-appointed psychiatrist says Robinson suffers from mental illnesses

CLINTON COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – A court-appointed psychiatrist takes the stand in the case against a man accused of attacking a woman and little girl outside of a Frankfort library.

The court-appointed psychiatrist said Reginald Robinson, 63, suffers from severe schizophrenia and obsessive compulsive disorder.

Robinson faces attempted murder charges in the alleged screwdriver stabbing of Gladys Brewer, 72, and her great-granddaughter Madyn Lanum, 4, outside the Frankfort library in 2013.

Robinson’s attorney is using an insanity defense, claiming he was not able to tell right from wrong at the time of the alleged crime because of mental illness, according to WISH-TV sister station WLFI News.

The psychiatrist said it’s his opinion Robinson was legally insane at the time of the stabbing. The psychiatrist said Robinson told him about an elaborate conspiracy theory where he is being watched and followed by everyone in Frankfort. Robinson told the psychiatrist when he heard Lanum making noise outside the library it was “the straw that broke the camel’s back” and he snapped.

The jury will hear final arguments Friday morning.
