Targeted hit list discovered at Bloomington high school
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) – A hit list that had been created by a group of students at Bloomington High School North was discovered on Thursday.
The hit list contained the names of teachers and students.
The Bloomington Police Department investigated the claims and school was not placed on lock down.
Principal Jeffrey Henderson sent the following information to students and parents on Friday:
“Last night Bloomington High School North Administration and the Bloomington Police Department were made aware of rumors regarding a “hit list” with the names of students and teachers on it. Working in cooperation with the Bloomington Police Department, an investigation began into the source and credibility of this information.
The students responsible for the generation of this list have been identified appropriate disciplinary action is being taken for the disruption and panic this caused for students and parents. While this did create a substantial disruption to the learning environment, the investigation revealed that the threat was not credible and I want to assure you that the building is safe.
I would like to express my thanks to those students and parents who followed the appropriate reporting protocols by contacting either BPD or a school administrator to make us aware. Please encourage your student to utilize these appropriate reporting channels rather than utilizing social media to talk with friends about these types of situations. The sooner the information is in the hands of appropriate authorities, the easier it is to conduct a thorough and accurate investigation.
