69-year-old woman dead after Leesburg Road accident

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A pedestrian is dead after she was hit by a vehicle Sunday evening.

The Allen County Sheriff’s Department was called to the crash at Leesburg and Flaugh Roads in western Allen County around 7:30 p.m.

Odie Mae Hengst, 69, was trying to cross the street when she was hit. She was initially taken to the hospital in critical condition but was later pronounced dead. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

Hengst’s death, which has been ruled an accident by the Allen County Coroner, is the third traffic fatality for Allen County in 2015.

The driver is cooperating with police and has not been charged with any violations, according to WISH-TV sister station WANE News.
