Crews still cleaning up after weekend snow

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – After a snowy weekend, crews were back out Monday morning working to clear roads for motorists.

Nearly 8 inches of snow accumulated in Indianapolis, with surrounding areas seeing anywhere from 3 to 8.5 inches.

Marion County issued a travel warning Sunday morning, asking that motorists stay off the roads. The warning was later lifted, and downgraded to an advisory.

Interstates and main roads around Indianapolis Monday morning were clear, while side roads remained mostly snow-covered.

Indy Snow Force and INDOT crews said they’d continue to clear major roadways and secondary streets in to Monday morning.

Indianapolis called on private contractors to help plow residential streets for the first time this season. Contractors are activated when more than six inches of snow accumulate.

Those crews have until 11 a.m. Monday to clear neighborhood routes.

Residents needing to report a street that has not been plowed can call the Mayor’s Action Center at (317) 327-4MAC (4622).

The Department of Public Works in Indianapolis said trash pickup would operate on normal schedule Monday, which the Storm Track 8 Team said would be cold and quiet. For what’s coming up in the forecast, click here.
