Passions Collide: Artists & Oars

On March 6 the Stutz Artists Association and SurvivOars are collaborating on a First Friday event, reception and open studios. In addition to the art that will be in the gallery, boat oars that have been designed by artists in celebration of breast cancer survivors will be on display

Passions Collide: Artists & Paddlers Meet: This is a unique collaboration between Indy SurviveOars and the Stutz Artist Association. This special event features paddle art by Indianapolis artists available for viewing and sale by silent auction. Participating artists are competing for juried and people’s choice awards.

SurviveOars is Indiana’s only breast cancer dragon boat team. Their mission is to provide breast cancer survivors a strong message of hope, inspiration, and encouragement by creating a floating support group. Dragon boat Racing is a 2000 year old Japanese sport that has been determined to be an excellent exercise for Breast Cancer Survivors.

There are studies that it reduces the chance of recurrence, keeping your weight down keeping exercise up also keeps you  healthy as well as the support and being able to get your life back after having had cancer.” Yopi Havlik

Also taking place that night in the Stutz Bldg, as part of IDADA First Friday, will be Stutz artists’ open studios and Raymond James Stutz Art Gallery Show, featuring Rich Hanna and Linette Bledsoe. More than 20 artists will have their studios open for guests to explore and enjoy their art, purchase art and learn more about their art. In the Gallery: Two local artists from the Stutz Artists Association are collaborating in March for a two-person show, titled Common Ground: Breaking Out of Tradition: New work by Linette Bledsoe and Ritch Hanna. The show will feature work from Bledsoe’s Plasterworks collection and Hanna’s Waxing Artistic Series.

The SurviveOars event and Gallery opening reception take place Friday, March 6, 5-9 p.m. and is a part of IDADA First Friday.
