Tarnished Kokomo neighborhood to get new development

KOKOMO, Ind. (WISH) – The Kokomo Mayor announced that new development project will be built in a blighted neighborhood in the community.

Apperson Way Apartments will be built on Kokomo’s near east side at 600 North Apperson Way.

Plans for the housing project outline a 69-unit, three-story housing complex that will also include town homes, a playground, community garden and picnic area.

The Whitsett Group in Housing Development Corporation, an Indianapolis-based developer, were approved by the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority for $932,001 in tax credits.

“We are very excited about approval of this project,” said Mayor Goodnight. “Apperson Way Apartments replaces a blighted area of the city with a new affordable housing complex. The development is designed to dramatically transform this important gateway to Kokomo’s historic Near East Side.”

Construction for the project is scheduled to start in the fall of 2015.
