Trial for suspects in 2013 home invasion set to begin

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Four men accused in one of two violent home invasions that shook the north side of Indianapolis in 2013 will stand trial on Monday.

The suspects each face 35 charges including rape, criminal confinement and robbery.

The prosecutor’s office tells 24-Hour News 8 they hope to have selection completed before the end of the day.

Adrian Anthony, Michael Pugh, Alexander Dupree and Demetre Brown will be in court Monday morning. They are all charged in connection to the 79th Street home invasion, where police say a mother and daughter were sexually assaulted. Investigators also say the suspects shot the mother in her leg, took her to an ATM and forced her to give them cash. All four men have pleaded not guilty.

Anthony, Pugh and Brown are also charged in another home invasion on nearby Spring Mill Road. In that case, they’re accused of beating homeowners before ransacking the home. Anthony sat down with I-Team 8. He said he forced the victims to give him money, but never hurt or raped them. He’s charged with murder in an unrelated case.

Jury selection is scheduled to began at 9 a.m. Prosecutors say they expect the trial to last about a week and a half.

A pool of 70 potential jurors will be riddled down to 12 jurors, and three alternates.

One potential juror asked to be taken out of the pool because she didn’t believe she could be fair, because her daughter was raped in a separate case.

Another juror told a judge she wouldn’t be able to focus on the case because her daughter was murdered and the hearing happened in the same court room.

This won’t be the end of these home invasion cases. At least 12 other people have been charged. Several of the others involved will be in court on Friday. Trae Spells, another man who pleaded guilty to both invasions, will be sentenced in April.
