Woman in custody in Rensselaer murder case

JASPER COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – Police have a person in custody connected to a Rensselaer murder case.

Authorities confirm Judy Moore has been taken into custody in connection to the murder of 77-year-old Trula Alliss. Police said Moore is Alliss’ stepdaughter and is about nine years younger than her stepmother.

As 24 Hour News 8’s sister station WLFI has reported, Alliss was found dead in her apartment on Feb. 5. An autopsy determined the cause of death was blunt force trauma.

Police said both women lived in the same apartment complex in Rensselaer, but were several buildings apart.

Moore was taken into custody Thursday, Feb. 28 because information obtained by police pointed to her trying to leave the state. Police said that’s when they made their move.

Formal charges have usually been filed by this time, but on Saturday prosecutors filed a 72-hour hold on the case to allow more time. Charges are expected most likely by Wednesday, police said.

Moore is currently being held in the Jasper County Jail.
