Woman faces second OWI in less than 24 hours

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A Lafayette woman has been booked into jail for operating while intoxicated and police said it’s the second time in less than 24 hours.

Around 3 p.m Monday, a Lafayette officer went to help Tina Torres, 44, who was stuck on a snow drift on State Road 38. He smelled alcohol on her breath. As he was standing in her door frame questioning her, Torres took off. Shortly after, she was involved in a crash at Creasy Lane and Amelia Avenue.

Torres was taken into custody and transported to Franciscan St. Elizabeth East.

She was later booked into the Tippecanoe County Jail and faces several charges including operating while intoxicated and battery on a law enforcement officer.

Investigators said she was arrested for operating while intoxicated Monday night.
