2 dogs killed in north side fire

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Officials are investigating after a fire on the north side of Indianapolis Thursday morning.

Firefighters in Pike Township responded to a home in the 6900 block of North Pershing Avenue around 5:30 a.m. and found fire coming from several windows.

Three people in the home were able to escape unharmed.

According to a spokesman with the Pike Township Fire Department, a hydrant in front of the home was originally frozen. Crews with the Indianapolis Fire Department arrived and were able to get water flowing onto the house.

Two dogs were killed in the fire. As of Thursday morning, investigators weren’t sure what started the fire.
