Text to 911 leads to battery arrest

BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – Sunday night, dispatchers in Bartholomew County say they received a 911 call, but no one spoke on the other line.

Dispatchers say they could hear there was a violent situation happening in the background. Moments later, dispatchers say the original 911 caller was able to text to 911.  That text led officers to a home in Elizabethtown.

When officers arrived to the home, they arrested a man for criminal confinement and domestic battery.

Emergency officials say the new Text to 911 system is working.

The Emergency Operations Center started Text to 911 in May 2014.

More than 80 counties are now using the system.
