Fire on southeast side sends two to hospital

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A house fire on the city’s southeast side sent an adult and a child to the hospital and injured a firefighter.

Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) responded to a home that housed an adult male, adult female and a child on the the 5400 block of Pecos Court at approximately 9:47 a.m. on Sunday.

The adult male tried unsuccessfully to put the fire out before it got out of control and all three residents escaped.

The adult female, mother of the child, reported to IFD that the child was using a lighter and might been the catalyst that started the fire.

The adult male and child were both transported to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital with some injuries.

One fire fighter reported being slightly injured on the scene and went to clinic to be checked out.

The resident’s family dog, a terrier pub mix, reportedly escaped the fire, but is as yet unaccounted for.

The fire was put out within 30 minutes, with damage estimates reaching $90,000.

The family is now without a home, so the IFD Victims Assistance and American Red Cross will work to find them shelter.
