Two children seriously hurt in I-465 car accident

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Two children were sent to area hospitals after the SUV they were riding in flipped over several times in a suspicious accident, police say.

Indiana State Police arrived at the scene of the crash of a green 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer on westbound I-465 at the 32-mile marker at 12:16 a.m. Sunday morning.

Upon arrival, police found that a two-year-old passenger in the accident had already been taken to IU Health North Medical Center by a good Samaritan.

A four-year-old passenger was present at the scene of the accident and was being treated by Indianapolis Fire Department when police arrived.

Reports state the child was transported to Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health in critical condition.

ISP determined that Brittani Whitlock, 22, of Indianapolis was the driver of the green SUV, and she lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons.

Whitlock was transported to Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Hospital to be treated for her injuries.

Police report that she was driving with a suspended license, and is wanted on a warrant through Marion County for driving while suspended, unsafe lane movement and operating a vehicle without financial liability.

When a tow truck righted the flipped over SUV, police found a handgun that had been reported stolen along with $3,000 cash in a purse.

ISP are still investigating.
