Two ISP squad cars struck on an icy interstate ramp

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – An icy interstate ramp caused two cars to hit two Indiana State Police cars on Saturday afternoon.

An ISP squad car was sitting on the ramp from westbound I-70 to southbound I-465 investigating a previous car accident around 3:50 p.m. While the ISP trooper and the driver of the damaged vehicle were sitting inside the ISP car, a driver lost control of their vehicle on the ramp and hit the police car.

According to reports, the police officer was not hurt, but the person sitting in the car’s passenger seat, Amber Murphy, 20, of Greenwood, was transported to the hospital to be checked out.

Police say the driver of the vehicle that struck the police car might have been driving under the influence at the time of the crash.

Another police officer responded to the scene of the crash, and while investigating, another car lost control of their car and hit the second squad car.

The police officer, ISP Trooper Evan Joyner, was taken to the hospital. The driver of the other vehicle did not report injuries.

Indiana Department of Transportation arrived to treat the slick ramp area and was temporarily shut down on Saturday afternoon.
