Child Advocates will rally for volunteers at the Statehouse

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – An organization that helps the most vulnerable children in Indianapolis will rally at the Statehouse Monday to highlight the need for volunteers.

The Statehouse rally is scheduled to start at noon on the second floor of the North Atrium.

Last month, Child Advocates of Marion County told 24-Hour News 8 it was in crisis.

The group said it was in desperate need of volunteers, as Child in Need of Services, or CHINS, cases skyrocket. Volunteers work to make sure each child is in the right foster home, reunited with their parents, or adopted.

In Marion County, there were at least 1,000 more cases in February 2015 than the year before.

There are nearly 3,500 CASA volunteers in 77 Indiana counties advocating on behalf of 18,000 abused and neglected children. There still over 4,000 children who are waiting for a CASA volunteer and do not have a voice in court.
