Pence offers assistance in cyber attack investigation

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Governor Mike Pence is among those seeking to find out who committed cyber attacks on websites in Indiana.

Those responsible claimed to be from ISIS.

The governor says he learned of the cyber attacks through the media. He says it’s a reminder of the world we live in today.

“The enemies of our freedom are just a click away,” he said, “even if they’re on the other side of the world.”

Pence indicated that the investigation into the source of the cyber attacks will be led by federal authorities likely with help from local police.

“But it’s troubling,” he said, “and I’ll be talking to our homeland security officials to make sure that our office of Information Technology and Homeland Security is supporting any efforts with the FBI and the Justice Department to properly investigate that.”

The governor said one of the troublesome aspects of the cyber attacks is that they interfere with freedom of speech.

He said he has no way of knowing at this point whether ISIS is actually the source.
