Indiana man drives car onto frozen reservoir, car flips over

BROOKVILLE, Ind. (AP) – Authorities say an eastern Indiana man drove onto a frozen reservoir, causing his car to flip over and trap him inside until he kicked out a window.

Conservation Officer Joshua Thomas says 30-year-old Clintin E. Lynch of Connersville drove down a boat ramp and onto frozen Brookville Reservoir about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.

His car flipped onto its roof and stopped atop ice that’s about 4 inches thick. Thomas says Lynch escaped his car by kicking out its back window, but fell through the ice before making it to the shoreline of the lake about 60 miles southeast of Indianapolis.

Lynch reached a nearby home and was given dry clothing and medical attention before being taken to a hospital.

Thomas says investigators don’t yet know why Thomas drove onto the ice.
