IMPD: 3 people shot while sitting in car

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Two people were taken to the hospital after being shot early Thursday morning.

It happened around 1 a.m. at the intersection of Elmira Street and West 34th Street.

An IMPD officer at the scene said four people under the age of 25 said they were sitting in a silver Honda at a dead end, located at the intersection, when someone approached the car on foot and started shooting.

Two people sitting on the driver side of the vehicle were hit by at least one bullet. One victim was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital and a second was taken to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital. Police said both were in stable condition.

A third victim was grazed by a bullet and was released by medics at the scene.

IMPD said the group of four told police they were sitting in the car “getting their plan together” as they were preparing to go to Marian University. There’s no word on whether the four were Marian University students or what their plans were once they arrived to the campus.
