Bartholomew Co. granted 4 more defibrillators

BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department received an REMC grant to add four more defibrillator units (AED) to their patrol vehicles.

The American Heart Association (AHA) states that over 380,000 people in the U.S. will suffer cardiac arrest in 2015.Access to an AED unit can mean the difference between life and death for a person undergoing cardiac arrest, as it is one of the four steps in the AHA’s “Chain of Survival.”

Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office began their AED program in 2000, when they gained access to four AED units.

The four extra AED devices made available through the REMC grant will mean that every deputy will have an AED unit in their patrol car.

“Having these new AED units will shorten the time period before life-saving measures can begin”, said Sheriff Matt Myers.

The new AED devices will be ordered next week.
