Warren Central ‘implementing measures’ after fight video surfaces

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — School officials in one township say they are looking to enhance safety protocols after a fight between two students at Warren Central.

The incident happened earlier this month and was caught on camera. Someone uploaded the video onto Facebook on March 9th. It has since been viewed more than 300,000 times.

The 25-second cell phone video captured the fight between two students near the main entrance around 7:10 a.m.

In the video, one student can be seen confronting another student. Seconds later, someone is punched in the face and soon after, one student is picked up and thrown to the ground.

“I’m kind of speechless like, where are the teachers at, because usually there’s supposed to be teachers around just in case like anything like this happen,” said Jalen Rice, North Central graduate.

But administrators said what you don’t see on camera is a school safety officer nearby, rushing through the crowd to break up the fight.

“It’s not cool and then people are watching and videotaping,” said Rice. “I don’t understand why people do that.”

No one from the school was available to go on camera Tuesday, but did tell 24-Hour News 8 by phone that when it comes to security, the high school has anywhere between 7 to 8 personnel for 3,600 students. That’s not including the number of deans and administrators.

The township’s spokesperson said safety personnel begin to arrive at 6:00 a.m. and would cover different parts of the building inside and out.

“I don’t know how that could happen,” said Werner Cifuentes, Warren Central parent. “They have so many people that take care of the school. There are policemen, you can see them during the breaks. They got so many policemen there.”

The school issued a statement to 24 Hour News 8:

“Administration has reviewed before school supervision and is implementing measures to enhance safety protocols during this time period.”

The spokesperson said both students in this incident have been disciplined.
