Peace Learning Center offers teens help

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Deonte Edmonds is a youth minister that enjoys working with teens but she wasn’t always so delightful to be around.

“I was disruptive to the learning environment, I was cutting up in class and stuff,” said Edmonds.

Edmonds behavior started to change for the better thanks to a supportive principal and to a group called the Peace Learning Center.

For 18 years the center has helped teens live peaceful lives. The group has decreased disciplinary actions by 70 percent in schools where the program is available.

“I believe if kids would connect and parents would connect with Peace Learning Center it would be an awesome experience,” said Edmonds.

The group is now turning their attention to the teenage girl behind a vicious attack caught on camera. In the video the teen is seen striking another teenage girl and the victim’s five-year-old brother.

The teen has been arrested but her family has been harassed, strange men have showed up to her home and there has been a Facebook campaign created against the teenage girl.

Peace Learning Center has reached out to the teen’s family, and on Thursday the group will attend a court hearing with the teenager.

“We can help her and that’s what’s different. We try to work with the whole family instead of one individual,” said Executive Director, Tim Nation.

Prosecutors have not released what type of charges the suspect may face.
