Governor’s son set for commissioning as Marine officer

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Gov. Mike Pence’s son is set to become a Marine Corps officer.

Pence and his wife, Karen, plan on going to the Marine Corps base in Quantico, Virginia, on Friday for the ceremony at which their son is to be commissioned as a second lieutenant.

The governor’s office says 23-year-old Michael J. Pence will be going into the active duty Marines. The younger Pence is a Purdue University graduate who will next go through basic training for officers.

The governor says he and his wife are very proud of their son and that he’ll bring along plenty of tissues for the commissioning ceremony. The Pences also have two adult daughters.
